Hi!

I am recently researching two cohousing project in Madrid. One of my conclusions has been the excessive time that has been necessary to carry out the projects, 13 years!

In any case in Madrid there is a very arduous first step is to find a lot. I guess in other countries and / or cities or environments this step is less expensive.

This is a great question that hasn't been researched. I would guess 5 years is average. But you have a huge range from 2 years to a dozen or more. Ask Marty Haskall with FairOaks - she's been working at this for something like 15 years! Then there's Port Townsend, from start to finish in 3 years.

One issue: when do you count "forming"? Is it when somebody had the initial idea? When you finally recruit a core group? when folks make a commitment? when you buy land? etc....
