This is a great idea Neil.

My name is Helen Jarvis and I am based in the UK. I live and work in Newcastle
upon Tyne (far North East of England): I am a social scientist (urban social
geography) at Newcastle University with a special interest in cohousing as one
specific expression of community-led housing and the wider umbrella of
intentional communities (my focus is on urban grassroots housing, especially
where there is an affordability/ social justice and innovative social/mutual
dimension; I'm also interested in low impact innovation and post occupancy
evaluations but again more from the socio-technical than the pure technical
architectural ecological dimensions).

I am a non-executive board member of the UK Cohousing Network and on this board
I have an equivalent responsibility for the research network side to Neil and
Angela.
In terms of my knowledge/appreciation of US cohousing I've periodically visited
projects on the West Coast since 2001 (because I have a parent/sibling living
in Washington and Oregon states) and I visited a handful of cohousing
communities in Virginia in 2010 (thanks to Ann Zabaldo as my guide) - but
otherwise most of the networking I have engaged in has been in Europe (also in
2010/11 in Australia). I convened a 2 year, 6 event international
academic-practitioner ESRC funded seminar series in the UK.

I hope to attend the 2017 National Cohousing Conference in Nashville to
reconnect with cohousing developments in the USA - specifically to draw
comparisons and lessons on 'mainstreaming' affordability, plus on retrofitted
cohousing/ serendipitous examples of collaboration and sharing of housing and
community assets.

Here in the UK I am also part of a forming cohousing community, CoHUT
(Cohousing upon Tyne) http://cohousing.org.uk/group/cohousing-upon-tyne-cohut.

Getting to know you…
I, and I know others on Cohousing Research Network’s (CRN) Core team, would
love to learn more about all the folks on this list. There are 40 of us on
this list now! So, I invite you all to share a little about yourself. Here
are some suggestions?

Where you are geographically located? (Country/City) What Cohousing,
Intentional or other community do you live in?

What interest you about Cohousing and the CRN?

What would you like to talk about, share and learn?
How would you like to contribute to CRN?

Anything else you’d like to add?

I/We look forward to hearing from you all!

Thank you
Neil
