Good afternoon,

Thanks for including me on the research list. I was one of the founders of  Vashon Cohousing. In 1989 we purchased 12 acres near the heart of Vashon Island to build our 18-home cohousing community. Our homes and common house are clustered on four acres, surrounded by eight acres of forest and adjoining farmland. I currently serve on our landscape and finance committees.

 

Vashon Island is located near Seattle in southern Puget Sound. This fall we will celebrate the 30th anniversary of purchasing our property. At the moment our community includes 32 adults and 8 children. Attached is an aerial photo and here's the link to our website: www.vashoncohousing.com

I joined the Research Network in preparation for my presentation at the National Cohousing Conference on "Cohousing as a Social Enterprise." Here's the link to a brief description of my presentation: https://coho2019conf.sched.com/event/JMDt

 

I will send a follow-up note to the list to enquire about ways cohousing communities generate income to offset dues for their members. I look forward to meeting other folks on this list in Portland.
