Hello,

Like fellow-new member Copia, I am developing a co-housing project in New Zealand for a group of friends and others where we can merrily ‘age in place’. We have just started construction of our common house on a semi-rural 7-acre site near Wellington and will have 25 homes when completed. (www.wellbornefarm.org)

We are currently working through the legal aspects of our co-housing community, which is a bit tricky!  I think there is much benefit in sharing the learnings from existing communities about what does and doesn’t need to be in purchase agreements and how to have rules that are flexible but preserve the character of the community.

I also work in government and am working to encourage planning laws to enable co-housing and other forms of innovative housing to flourish. Unfortunately in New Zealand we have housing shortages despite having a small population and plenty of land, with affordability being a growing issue.

Hi all

I'm a long-standing cohousing fan and advocate, and a researcher of same back in the 90s. Mine was probably one of the first doctoral research projects focused on cohousing, out of which came a book which some of you may have seen - Sustainable Community: Learning from the cohousing model (Trafford). I travelled extensively in the US and Canada back then and made many cohousing friends along the way, some of them researchers. So it's lovely to be back amongst you. I've been living in the Findhorn community for the last 12 years.

All the best

Graham

We always love to hear what folks have interest in learning about and what you might be interested in contributing.

We look forward to hearing from you!
