Greetings new friends,

I love cohousing and would love to one day live in a neurodiverse cohousing community. For work, I help people with autism or other developmental disability and their families think creatively about how to secure housing and "the good stuff of life" for when one's Mom and Dad are no longer around to support them... @David, smarthome technology has a huge barely-tapped market in this community.

I added a filter for cohousing to my online supportive housing database (the Autism Housing Network) so families interested in developing or connecting with other cohousers could find each other. The need to raise awareness of cohousing as an option and more intentionally help families who have loved one's with special needs connect and create cohousing is so important...

Right now I am developing a Quality of Life indicator survey to track change in health/wellness/happiness/motivation of people with disabilities who are able to access supportive housing as there is stigma in Medicaid that "intentional communities" segregate and isolate people with disabilities. If any of you would like to geek out and share what big impact indicators I should not leave out- please contact me!

Warm regards,
Desiree

Hello!

I’m Tom, a PhD student at Georgia Tech studying cohousing as a way of rethinking and extending “smart” homes and communities. I’m based in Atlanta, Georgia, but grew up in upstate New York in Ithaca, where cohousing and intentional communities have a history through the Ecovillage there, as well as at newer sites like pocket communities.
