I appreciate your inquiry and comments on learning about failed attempts at co-housing.

It is very important to recognize "best" and "worst" practices as we consider the history of different/alternative living arrangements.

did not find much.  One citation:

International Planning Studies 10.2 (2005): 145-77. includes the statment:
An international comparison of the experience of cohousing in the UK
and California and the factors influencing success and failure of
cohousing in both locations are then explored.
