Hello Fred

It is good to hear from you. I hope all is well with you and Becca.

I know of no one who has that data other that ic.org. Coho/US years back did not have the capacity to create our own db. So, we kinda negotiated and ic who already had all the tech infrastructure got to have “our” data. :(

I too am looking for the ic.org/coho/us directory database for a data visualization project - beyond simple geo mapping as a side Cohousing project.  I am asked dozens of time a year for information which is what leads me to building a tool to share it!!! I’d love to share and display the results on CRN, Coho/US and FIC sites. It’ll take a while to build and there are some really simple-ish tools out there now.

Tony has moved on from ic.org and a new team inc a new ED are growing and nurturing the FIC.  I am email them this week and will ask for a fresh download which I am happy to share with you since it is public data.

How brave of you to got the brute force way!

So I do not have an instant solution. I will be reaching out to FIC and asking for said data in the next week.

Sending you Oakland greetings!

Cordially,

Hi Fred,

In the past, Tony Serna who used to manage the ic.org (and cohous) directory has sent me the database in spreadsheet form. I forget who is taking care of it now, but if you could get them to send you the data, at least the variables you need, in a spreadsheet, you could sort by property size. CRN doesnt seem have that variable in our databases, unfortunately.

Best,

Angela

Hi,

I've tried to use the data at http://cohousing.org/directory
to get (for example) a list of cohousing communities with small sites
(<1.5 acres) .

What I'd like on the list is:

name   size   #-units   common-hse-size

Anyone have a way to get that info?

I tried a brute force approach of downloading the html of
248 "complete" pages from ic.org to one file.
Pages like, for example: http://www.ic.org/directory/swans-market-cohousing/
That gets to be a big file 22 Mbytes). I can extract most of what I want but
there is probably a better way. (Common house size is not on complete pages,
it is on the communiy's page at cohousing.org )
(e.g. http://cohousing.org/Swan%27s%20Market%20Cohousing )

In browsing this lists archives
http://lists.cohousingresearchnetwork.org/pipermail/research-l/
the closest I came to this was a discussion back in March 2016
Subject: California Cohousing Communities

I did not see anything related to this on
http://www.cohousingresearchnetwork.org/

BTW I did not see any links between these two.
