Fred, I haven't seen any reference to plans that a community might have made and carried out to help those in need systematically. I vaguely remember mention of individual cases along this line--they would have been described only in passing.
Best, Chuck

Hi Everyone.
I’m forwarding this message from a reporter for the AARP who is
looking for trends data re: older adults choosing community living.
Please contact Sally (Cc:ed) a.s.a.p. if you have any information or
contacts for her. Thanks!

> Thanks for your email. I have pitched a trend story to AARP on the
burgeoning of intentional communities that older adults are calling
home. The piece is on how older adults are moving into these intergen
communities to help support populations in need. Kids who have come
out of the foster care system. Young mothers who have aged out of
foster care. Injured veterans. LGBT+ young adults, many of whom were
homeless; and neurodiverse (mostly autism) young adults or others with
intellectual disabilities.
> My editor wants to know if there is any data showing this trend of older adults making this housing choice. As far as I know, there is no hard data, either statistics, studies or research. Are there any I don’t know about? If that’s the case, it is still clear that it is a popular choice because:
> Bridge Meadows has a wait list of three years. (At least according to one resident). Is there a wait list at Treehouse and if so, how long is it? Because of demand, Bridge Meadows has built two other intergen communities that support foster care kids and are going to include young mothers who have come out of foster care (like the D.C. apartment building). I know thatTreehouse is going to build another community for families with foster children and young mothers in Boston. So, to me, that is interest!
> Around the country (Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio), communities for neurodiverse young adults and elders are being planned. There is one that just opened in Indiana.
> Do you have any statistics or studies, or anything, that would prove to my editor that this lifestyle choice for older adults is, in fact, a trend? I know it is but don’t know where there is data to show it. Also, are there other kinds of intentional communities that older adults are living in to support vulnerable populations that I might have missed?
